About Us

Improving livelihood since 2021

The idea to start the company was hatched under Acacia Tree  in 2020 as a social enterprise working to mitigate climate change, enable sustainable livelihood and protect local diversity. The company works to improving livelihood and development of the community focusing on environmental entrepreneurship, value addition, ecosystem and more desirous in working with international agencies and government entities to streamline the protection of ecosystem, rivers and swampy areas in Uganda.

Since inception, we are much known for promoting environmentally sustainable development using bamboo in Kasese, Kyenjojo and some parts of Uganda.   Bamboo trees play a multi sectional role protecting the river banks; prevent soil erosion and an alternative cash crop.

Akacia Kia U Ltd employs an innovative community tailored business model through farmer and rural community trainings, provision of Seedlings, establishment of model plantations. Through this, we address the challenges of environmental degradation and make sustainable living not only accessible but globally more accepted.

Objective

1. Utilize bamboo as a renewable resource to promote environmental sustainability and reduce reliance on traditional timber.
2. Engage in social responsibility by creating employment opportunities in bamboo cultivation, processing and product manafacturing thereby contributing to local economic development and empowerment
3. Diversity product range, tapping into market for sustainable products, construction materials, herbal medicine, cosmetics and dietary supplements

Charles Bwambale

Position: Founder & CEO

Charles is trained with Business major holding a Bachelors of Commerce of Makerere University and currently pursuing CPA (U). Charles is an entrepreneur and with over 10 years working in community development in areas of public Health and environmental management. Charles has worked across diverse sectors including Insurance, Finance, NGOs, Manufacturing, Banking, Business and corporate management 

The dynamic relationship between human and earth has always captivated me. The first time I recognized the magnitude of my passion for sustainable development was when I visited the landslide and river flooding victims in Kasese District and looking at destructions businesses make to the climate. I have designed Smart climate business profit models that answers right the stakeholders, Investors and Customers by replacing use of plastics and cement with bamboo to reduce carbon footprint.

Charles is trying hard to make businesses more sustainable by working on solutions that benefit People, our Planet and make Profits and make sustainable living not only accessible but globally accepted.

Davia Christine Masika

Position: Chairperson

Davia is an Educationalist with over 20 years of teaching experience. Her strength includes project management, fundraising and Business strategy. She is an entrepreneur with passion for sustainable development and social impact.

Davia holds a Bachelors Degree in Education from Valley University, Uganda. Through her work with Akacia Kia U Ltd, she has engaged many partners including WWF in supporting bamboo planting along the major River of Kasese to mitigate the effects of flooding.

With her experience in Teaching, she has been instrumental in establishing a skill centre where the youth, the elderly and young mothers are engaged in training on bamboo value addition to improve their livelihood

Herman Muhindo

Position: Project Coordinator

Herman Muhindo is a graduate of certificate in administrative law and Bachelor’s degree in development studies from makerere university.
He is a researcher, farmer, development practitioner, who advocates for a clean environment, poverty free world and with almost a decade of experience in management, strategic planning, research and conflict resolution. He has Worke with Irrisol Engineering limited a company that offers water and irrigation solutions, Research with makerere university on environmental issues and land use patterns as well as poverty disparities.
He has worked with Innovation village Hub as a Youth entrepreneurship trainer in Nakivale refugee settlement.
With immense expertise in rural-urban linkages ,water resource utilization and understanding of income disparities among the people, conflicts due to land use patterns, Herman Muhindo, contributes enormously towards realization of our shared aspiration to fair, just, clean energy use in the world with shared prosperity for all.

Doreen Kitakufe

Position: Finance & Administration

Doreen is a reliable and motivated Accountant with over 3 years experience and Education. She is also a procurement specialist with wide knowledge in Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA).

Doreen is currently MBA candidate at Maharishi International University, Iowa USA. She holds bachelors Degree of Procurement and Logistics Management. Purchasing/ Acquisitions and Contract management of Kyambogo University.

Her exposure and business experience places her in international business and working environment.

Joviah Biira

Position: Internal Auditor

Joviah is experienced Finance and Administration Officer with demonstrated experience in Nongovernmental Management, Corporate Management and Finance. She has worked with a number of International organizations including USAID, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Child i Foundation.

She holds a masters Degree in Business and Administration with Accounting and Finance from Amity University India, Level Three CPA (U) with ICPAU and a bachelors Degree of Commerce of Makerere University. Joviah has a series of capacity building trainings from ICPAU which has positioned her as a distinguished Auditor.

David Kiiza

Position: Construction Supervisor

David Kiiza holds a National diploma in civil engineering at Uganda Technical College Kichwamba Fortpotal city. He has 5yrs experience in building construction with skills in CAD, CONCRETE DESIGNS, ROOF WORK, BUILDING PLANS, BRICK WORK.
He has professionally supervised the company bamboo construction sites.
